A Guide to Brisbane's Best (and Worst) Streets for a Moving Truck

Updated 11 July 2026

Every Brisbane removalist has a mental list of streets that make a job easy and streets that make a crew's heart sink a little on the drive over. It's rarely about distance — it's about access. Here's what actually causes the trouble, suburb by suburb.

What actually makes a street hard to move on

  • Steep, narrow driveways. Classic Queenslander blocks in suburbs like Paddington and Red Hill often have driveways cut into a hillside — fine for a car, tight for a truck with a wide turning circle.
  • No truck parking directly out front. Inner-city terrace streets (parts of New Farm, West End) sometimes mean parking half a block away and carrying everything further than the quote assumed.
  • Council permit zones. Some inner-city streets require a temporary parking permit for a truck over a certain size — worth checking with your local council if you're on a permit-zoned street.
  • Body corporate loading dock booking windows. High-rise apartment streets on the river (New Farm, Kangaroo Point, South Bank) often require the building's loading dock booked in a specific time slot — turn up outside it and you're waiting, not moving.

Suburbs that are genuinely easy

Newer suburbs with wide, straight streets and double garages — much of the outer south and western corridors, and newer Gold Coast estates — are about as simple as moving day gets. Wide driveways, easy truck parking, no permits, no steep pitches.

Suburbs where it pays to plan ahead

Suburb typeWhat to plan for
Hillside Queenslander streets (Paddington, Red Hill, Bardon)Steep driveways, narrow street width — confirm truck access when booking
Inner-city terrace streets (parts of New Farm, West End)Limited direct parking — factor in a longer carry distance
High-rise apartment blocks (Kangaroo Point, South Bank)Loading dock booking window — book this before moving day, not on it
Permit-zoned inner-city streetsCheck with council for a temporary truck parking permit if required

The fix is always the same: tell us before moving day

None of these are actually problems — they're just things a crew plans for when they know about them ahead of time. A quick note about stairs, steep driveways, or a loading dock booking window when you book means the right size truck and the right crew turn up, instead of discovering it on the day.
