Moving a Home Office or Home Gym Setup

Home offices and home gyms have both become standard parts of the modern house move — and both need handling that's genuinely different to a normal lounge room. Here's what actually matters for each.

Moving a home office

• Label cables before disconnecting anything. A phone photo of the setup plus masking tape labels on each cable saves a genuinely frustrating reassembly puzzle later.
• Monitors travel upright, in their original box if you kept it. No original box, no problem — bubble wrap around the screen and a snug fit in a box sized correctly (see our box-size guide for matching box to item).
• Small components go in one clearly labelled box. Chargers, mice, cables, adapters — scattered across three boxes is how half of them go missing.
• Ergonomic chairs need padding at the base and armrests. The mechanisms underneath are more fragile than they look.

Moving a home gym

• Weight plates are dense — small box rule applies. A "small" amount of weight plates is genuinely heavy; box them the same way you'd box books, not linen.
• Dismantle large equipment where possible. Racks, benches and larger machines usually break down into flat-packable pieces — check the original assembly instructions if you still have them.

• Heavy equipment needs a genuine weight estimate given to your removalist. A loaded barbell rack or a treadmill is a two-person lift minimum — flag it ahead of time.
